What are the benefits of online veterinary pharmacies? Products may be upto 50% cheaper than those available through your vets. This is due to lower running costs and larger purchases than your veterinary practices. What is a prescription? A written prescription is a form similar to the form that a doctor uses to allow the pharmacist to dispense a product. The veterinary surgeon must complete this form, and it has to have certain details reguarding you and your pet, the medication for your pet, and the details of your veterinary surgeon. This then allows us to dispense your pet's medication. Do all products need a prescription? Most products, such as wormers, flea treatments, diets and shampoos may not require a prescription. Any products that require a prescription are marked. How can I obtain a prescription? There are two ways to obtain a prescripton; 1. You can download a prescription form from our site, by clicking on the 'get prescription' link at the checkout. This can be taken to your vet surgery and completed. 2. You can ask your vet to write a prescription for you. Are the drugs the same as those from the vet? Yes. We source our drugs from the same suppliers as your veterinary practice. We do not stock parallel import products. Can my vet refuse to give a prescription? No. The veterinary surgeon cannot refuse to give a prescription and product that would normally be dispensed for your pet. Can my vet charge for a prescription? From 31st October 2008, veterinary surgeons can charge a reasonable fee for written prescriptions. The fees may vary in different practices. A health check may be requried prior to a prescription being obtained. Where do I send my prescription? You must send the original prescription to: VetMedUK PO Box 59442 London SE2 8AD Make sure it is completed and signed. A prescription product cannot be dispatched until the original copy of the prescription has been received. Can I return my prescription product? No. If the prescription product has been accurately dispatched, then we cannot accept a return of the product. A non prescription item can be returned based on our returns and refunds policy. See terms and conditions. Can I get a repeat prescription? Yes. Your veterinary surgeon, if appropriate, can mark the written prescription as a repeat. For example, x3 would mean 4 items can be dispatched. We will keep an accurate log of your purchases against your prescription to ensure the repeat prescription is honoured. How long is my prescription valid for? Prescriptions are valid for 6 months, unless specified, and upto a maximum of 12 months. Do prescription diets need a prescription? No. However, we recommend you consult your veterinary surgeon before you consider purchasing these therapeutic diets. Does my pet need to have a check up for a written prescription? Your pet will need regular health checks in order to prescribe prescription only medication (POM-V). This allows your veterinary surgeon to have knowledge of your pets health and any illnesses, to decide upon a course of treatment, and assess the response to the treatment. Your veterinary surgeon will have thorough knowledge of the medication, usage, dose, side affects and any contraindications. Therefore, the frequency of the health checks will be dependant upon the type of illness and seriousness, and the response to treatment. Most pets on long term medication will need health checks and possibly diagnostic/monitoring tests (such as blood tests) on a 3-6 monthly basis. What if my prescription is lost in the post? You would normally have paid a fee for the private prescription from your veterinary practice, and to lose one in the post may cost you more money, and a refund from VetMedUK will entail a £2.00 administration fee. For this reason, we recommend you send the prescription to us as 1st class recorded delivery to ensure it gets to us. See terms and conditions (section 8.4). Am I allowed to claim my drug costs on my insurance policy? You can send all reciepts to the insurance company, your veterinary surgery will assist you in any claims submitted to your insurance company. What is NOAH? The National Office of Animal Health (NOAH) can be contacted on www.noahcompendium.co.uk and also on the 'find out more' link on selected items. NOAH provides information on manufactured licensed products. What is Sage Pay? Sage Pay, previously Protx, is a mode of secure online purchasing.
